The heist of the decade becomes a movie. The Louvre theft will be the focus of a production by a well-known French director

The robbery that took place at the Louvre Museum on October 19, 2025, when jewels worth about 100 million dollars were stolen, will be the subject of a film, according to the announcement made by a publishing house on Tuesday, AFP wrote.

The French director Romain Gavras, who also has in his portfolio “Sacrifice” (2025), a film produced in Hollywood in which the famous actress Anya Taylor-Joy also stars, will be inspired by the investigative book “Main basse sur le Louvre”.

Filming rights have been sold to the production company Iconoclast, the publishing house Flammarion said.

The book was written by journalists Jean-Michel Décugis, Nicolas-Charles Torrent and Jérémie Pham-Lê, and will hit bookstores on Wednesday.

According to Le Film Francais, the film project is in development, although neither the title nor the cast have been announced.

The stolen jewelry has not yet been found

The Louvre robbery made international media headlines and sparked a security crisis at the famous Paris museum, the world's most visited, eventually leading to the replacement of its director, Laurence des Cars.

After seven months of investigations, the jewels have still not been found, even though the main suspects have been arrested.

The book's authors said the apparent disappearance of the jewels “became a dense mystery, a puzzle that threw investigators into deep confusion.”

The robbery illustrates how “art theft has become a business like any other for many criminals,” the authors say. “The underworld has found a new cash cow,” they added.
