Locomotive fire in Maramureș: over 60 passengers evacuated from a train on its way to Baia Mare

More than 60 passengers were evacuated from a train on the route to Baia Mare, after the locomotive caught fire in the Ulmeni area, the authorities announced.

Firefighting crews were mobilized on the spot to locate and extinguish the fire, the intervention being ongoing at the time of the transmission of the information, notes Ziarul de Maramureș.
The area was secured by the intervention forces to prevent the flames from spreading and to ensure the safety of rail traffic.
According to ISU Maramureș, the fire broke out in the locomotive, and the passengers were disembarked safely.
The train has six carriages, in which there were 120 passengers.
“A replacement locomotive arrived at the scene, more than 60 passengers were boarded safely”, said the spokesperson of ISU Maramureș, Adriana Șanta.
Later, the passengers were transferred to carriages of a replacement locomotive, and the train resumed its journey to Baia Mare.
