An unexpected situation in St. Piotr in the Vatican. The faithful did not hide their surprise

It is not known where this delay from and we will certainly not find out in the near future, because the cardinals are cut off from the outside world. It is known, however, that similar cases have already happened in the history of the conclave.
In the past, the cardinals repeated their votes, which also extended the announcement of the decision to the whole world. In accordance with the provisions of the Apostolic Constitution Universi Dominici Gregisissued by John Paul II and regulating the principles of choosing a pope, this happens, for example, when the number of votes cast does not agree with the number of entitled cardinals to vote.
History also knows cases when the cardinals correctly voted, but they had a problem running the furnace in the Sistine chapel, which produces smoke. Another time, the smoke that came out of the chapel's chimney at the beginning was white, which caused euphoria in St. Piotr, but after a while he turned black. This was because the cardinals confused chemicals, which are added to smoke to get the desired color.

Smoke, which rose to the square on Wednesday in the evening, was black, which means that no candidate won 2/3 of support, i.e. did not receive 89 votes. This, in turn, means that the cardinals gathered on Wednesday for the conclave did not choose the pope in the first vote.
Starting from Thursday they will take place after two votes in the morning and two in the afternoon. After 13 votes, a 24-hour break is planned.

– It is strong to call to preserve the unity of the Church on the path of the Apostles marked by Christ. The unity of the Church is desired by Christ; Unity, which does not mean uniformity, but permanent and deep communion in diversity, as long as one remains in full fidelity of the Gospel – said during the homily the dean of the Cardinal College of Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re and these words can be prophetic in the context of the results of the current conclave.
During the Wednesday liturgy before the conclave, the cardinals heard a message that many of them can inspire to vote for a specific candidate. Homily delivered by Cardinal RE was full of unambiguous indications as to which direction the Catholic Church should head and what the successor of Saint Peter should be.
