Alexandra Căpitănescu, 3rd place at Eurovision 2026. What were Romania's best performances at Eurovision

Romania fought on Saturday evening for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 trophy, on the stage of the competition organized in Vienna, where Alexandra Căpitănescu ranked third.

Bulgaria won Eurovision 2026, followed by Israel and Romania.

Alexandra Căpitănescu, 22 years old, originally from Galați, had a spectacular performance, to the cheers of the audience.

Romania has never won Eurovision, but has had some important entries, including two 3rd places and several top 10 appearances.

Luminița Anghel and Sistem, the first podium for Romania

The 2005 edition, organized in Kiev, brought one of the best results in the history of Romania's participation in Eurovision. Luminița Anghel and the band Sistem conquered the European audience with the song “Let Me Try”, a combination of pop and industrial percussion.

Romania finished the contest in 3rd place, the first podium achieved by our country at Eurovision.

Paula Seling and Ovi, 3rd place in Oslo

In 2010, in Oslo, Paula Seling and Ovi represented Romania with the song “Playing with Fire”. The two impressed with their vocal duet, and Romania again won 3rd place.

After their success in 2010, Paula Seling and Ovi returned to Eurovision in 2014 in Copenhagen with the song “Miracle”. Romania ranked 12th then.

Mihai Trăistariu and the success of “Tornerò”

Mihai Trăistariu represented Romania in 2006, in Athens, with the song “Tornerò”. The artist got the 4th place. The song became a hit in several European countries.

Romania's first important rankings

In 2002, in Tallinn, Monica Anghel and Marcel Pavel impressed with the ballad “Tell Me Why”. Romania took 9th place, the country's first important result in the competition.

In 2017, Ilinca and Alex Florea represented Romania at the Eurovision organized again in Kyiv, with the song “Yodel It!”, and Romania ended the competition in 7th place, one of the best rankings in recent years.
