The serious incident occurred in Modena, northern Italy.

The Ansa agency reported that he was behind the wheel of the car that crashed into the store window a man from North Africa. According to witnesses he intentionally hit passers-bydriving at very high speed.

— Several people who chased him after he escaped from the vehicle contributed to his arrest and handed him over to the police, said Massimo Mezzetti, mayor of Modena.

One of the men was injured with a knife by the perpetrator of the incident.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni commented on the event. “What happened today in Modena, where a man hit several pedestrians and then allegedly stabbed a passer-by, is very serious,” she wrote on social media. She expressed solidarity with the families of the injured people and thanked those citizens who contributed to the arrest of the perpetrator and the police.

“I talked to the Mayor and am in constant contact with the authorities to follow developments. I believe that the perpetrator will be fully responsible for his actions,” Meloni wrote.
