The Minister of Economy, Digitization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Irineu Darău, recommends Romanians to spend their holidays in Romania and to choose domestic tourist destinations for this year's holidays, emphasizing the importance of supporting local tourism and the national economy by consuming services from the country. The statements were made on Thursday evening, during the “Destination of the Year” gala.

“Regarding fuel and flights, there can always be certain reasons for concern, but we cannot predict exactly how the crisis will unfold. I think my call to Romanians is clear, and it was also when I was here at the opening of the coast and when I spoke in my capacity as Minister of Tourism, to spend holidays in the country as well”declared Irineu Darău.

The official believes that the year 2026 could represent an important moment for Romanian tourism, especially since more and more Romanians are looking for safer and more affordable vacation options.

“I really believe that also from the point of view of safety and prices and encouraging the economy, 2026 can be the year when almost all Romanians choose Romania as a destination to increase our economy and tourism”, the official also said.

Later, Minister Irineu Darău came with a similar message on Facebook, where he emphasized the importance of supporting Romanian tourism and local communities.

“I'm glad to see that this competition grows from year to year and that it succeeds in highlighting more and more valuable places in Romania. The approximately 450,000 votes from the public show that there is a real interest in Romanian tourism and in destinations built and promoted with seriousness and vision. In a complicated time for many local businesses, when we choose to travel through Romania we are, in fact, choosing to support Romanian entrepreneurs, local communities and people who invest in the development of these places. Congratulations to all the finalists and organizers for what they have built around this project! Romania has a lot of places that deserve to be discovered better – including by us, the Romanians”he sent on Facebook.
