A resident of Silesia receives the highest pension in Poland. He worked for it for 67 years

In an interview with PAP, ZUS regional spokesman Wojciech Ściwiarski said that the record holder, who receives a pension of approximately PLN 54,000. PLN gross is a resident of Silesia who decided to end his professional activity only at the age of 86. The documents showed over 67 years of work.
The leader among women is a resident of the area served by the ZUS Branch in Bydgoszcz. Receives over 42 thousand PLN gross per month, and she retired at the age of 81. Her length of service was 61 years.

A visible change among retirees in Poland
Data presented by the spokesman show that within a decade the group of working retirees in Poland has increased by half. 10 years ago, over 575,000 people were employed. people receiving benefits, while at the end of 2025 it was almost 880 thousand. However, the growth dynamics last year was lower – there were less than 7,000 people. such people compared to 2024
– This could be due to several different factors. One is to delay retirement and extend professional activity. Retired people are also increasingly willing to work. Employers are increasingly agreeing to this and are willing to employ people of retirement age, explained Ściwiarski.

The spokesman emphasized that continuing to work after receiving the benefit means not only higher income, but also maintaining social ties and an active lifestyle. He added that people after reaching the standard retirement age can earn without limits. They also have the right, once a year or after the end of the employment relationship, to add contributions accumulated in the ZUS account after the pension has been granted.
The average age of people continuing to work after receiving a pension is almost 68 years. In the case of men it is 69 years and 5 months, and in the case of women – 66 years and 6 months.

— Extending professional activity and later retirement has a significant impact on the amount of the pension, with each additional year of work, the future pension will increase significantly, even by about 8-12%. – Ściwiarski pointed out.
People who have reached the general retirement age – 60 for women and 65 for men – can earn without any restrictions. The condition is that their benefit is not increased to the minimum amount, which from March 2026 amounts to PLN 1,978.49 gross. When the income from work exceeds the amount of the minimum subsidy, the benefit for that period will go to the entitled person in a lower amount – without compensation.
