Arrived in the “Valley of Gastronomy” in Italy, Princess Kate learned to prepare “tortelli”

The Princess of Wales learned how to make Italian pasta on Thursday during a visit to a community located in a hilly area of the so-called “Valley of Gastronomy” in northern Italy, a region known worldwide for products such as Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, Reuters writes.

Kate, the wife of Prince William, the heir to the throne of the United Kingdom, is visiting Italy as part of her actions dedicated to the development of children, a central theme of her public agenda.

On Wednesday, the British princess was greeted by hundreds of admirers in Reggio Emilia, a city recognized internationally for its special approach to the education of young children.

On Thursday morning, Princess Kate visited a local preschool and the Remide Center, where materials that should have become waste are reused and turned into learning tools for children.

At lunchtime, she learned to prepare fresh pasta at the Al Vigneto farm, located between the cities of Reggio Emilia and Parma, according to Agerpres.

Under the guidance of head chef Ivan Lampredi, Princess Kate learned how to make “tortelli”, a type of stuffed pasta, a typical dish of this Italian region, usually filled with ricotta and aromatic herbs, although there are other variations with spinach, pumpkin and artichoke.

Before returning to the United Kingdom, the British princess will meet local multi-generational families, learning how caring, creativity and bonding are passed down through everyday traditions such as cooking, Italian officials said.

Last year, the UN's cultural agency, UNESCO, recognized Italy's national gastronomy as an “intangible cultural heritage” of humanity, appreciating culinary practices passed down through generations.
