ANAF: “We will sell a Ferrari soon” – how a luxury car betrayed an evasion of 18 million

The National Fiscal Administration Agency (ANAF) will focus in the coming period on people with undeclared wealth and income, and controls in this area will increase, the president of the institution, Adrian Nica, said on Tuesday at the official launch event of the International Tax Association – IFA Romania.
“I think that the efforts we are making and the focus in the next period on people with wealth versus undeclared income will increase. We will intensify controls in this area even more. Let me give you a trivial example that ANAF reached during this period and I presented it on the page. Following a car purchase, our colleagues saw that a citizen had bought a Ferrari, obviously through the company. The company was sanitation. And after that they continued the control and, look so, tax evasion – 18 million (lei – no). We will probably sell a Ferrari in the next period, so you can raise money to buy yourself”, said Nica, quoted by Agerpres.
He expressed his hope that ANAF will benefit from new control tools “in the area of natural persons”.
“We will then monitor and I hope to convince the political power to grant ANAF new tools in the area of natural persons. I will give you the example of a famous Romanian footballer – I will not say his name – who told me a simple scene. Once he arrived in Italy, the first thing he did was buy an Aston Martin. Why? When you are young, you want an Aston Martin. He went out three times on the street. He was stopped three times by the finance guard. Why did they stop him? Let's see if he has the income He gave the bulletin, they saw that he had the relevant income, I think that the Antifraud must do this soon, we cannot move forward,” said the head of ANAF.
The official launch event of IFA Romania took place on Tuesday in the presence of representatives of public authorities, tax experts, entrepreneurs, economists, consultants and business leaders. IFA Romania is affiliated to the International Fiscal Association (IFA Global), one of the most important international organizations dedicated to taxation, based in the Netherlands.
IFA Romania aims to become an independent and neutral platform for dialogue between the authorities, the academic environment, tax consultants, lawyers, economists, company representatives and specialists in the field of international taxation, in an economic and fiscal context in a continuous transformation.
