Dua Lipa has sued Samsung, accusing the company of using her image without consent in a promotional campaign for its TVs.

According to the complaint filed on Friday in the Central District Court of California, the artist's photo appeared on the packaging of some Samsung TVs since last year. The singer claims that she later found out about the campaign and asked the company to stop using her image, but the company's reaction would have been, according to the documents, “careless and disrespectful”, Variety notes.
“Dua Lipa's face was used in a marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without compensation, and without her having any control or decision-making power.” it is stated in the complaint filed in court.
The artist states that she would never have given her consent to be associated with the company's products and accuses the South Korean giant of creating the false impression that she recommends the respective televisions.
According to court documents, the photo was taken backstage at the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival, and the rights to the image belong to the artist. The file also included reactions from some users on the X platform, which would suggest that the presence of the star on the packaging would have influenced the purchase decision of some customers.
“I didn't even want to buy a TV, but I saw the box and decided to get it”one user wrote.
Another fan commented: “I would buy that TV just because Dua Lipa is on the box.”
The lawsuit alleges copyright infringement, unauthorized use of the image and violation of federal trademark law. So far, Samsung has not offered an official point of view.
