Putin declared a truce for May 8–9 and threatened a strike on Kyiv

Illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a two-day so-called truce on the occasion of May 9 and threatened a massive attack on Kyiv. The corresponding statement was published by the Russian Ministry of Defense on Telegram on May 4.

“On May 8–9, a truce is declared in honor of the celebration of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. We hope that the Ukrainian side will follow this example,” the statement says.

At the same time, the message contained accusations against the Ukrainian leadership. The Russian side claims that during the summit of the European Political Community in Yerevan, “threats of striking Moscow on May 9” were allegedly made.

In this context, it was stated that the Russian armed forces will take “all necessary measures” to ensure the safety of festive events.

In addition, the statement contains a direct threat: in the event of attempts to disrupt the celebration, Russia will allegedly launch a “massive missile attack on the center of Kyiv.”

“We are warning the civilian population of Kyiv and employees of foreign diplomatic missions of the need to leave the city in a timely manner,” the Russian defense ministry said.

The report also notes that previously they allegedly refrained from such actions “for humanitarian reasons.”

Before Putin’s statement, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky informed that “no one has officially contacted Kiev or offered anything” regarding a possible ceasefire on May 9.
