Nicușor Dan's answer, asked if he still supports Bolojan: “We have a split”

President Nicușor Dan again avoided saying whether he supports Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, after the social democrats signed the censure motion against the Government alongside AUR. The head of state said he was keeping an “equidistance” between the warring camps.

“He is a very serious person, whom I respect, but we have a split between two halves of the pro-European direction. I keep my distance”, declared Nicușor Dan.

In recent days, the president has constantly avoided saying whether he still supports Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

And the day before, in an intervention on Digi FM, Nicușor Dan had stated that he cannot publicly support one of the parties, invoking the constitutional role of mediator.

Bolognese: The intention to mediate is correct, but logic and common sense work under certain conditions. In others, they don't

“We had a good collaboration throughout this period. I believe that in order to be able to do what is right for the country, in its external representation, internally, there must be a collaboration between the president and the prime minister,” said Bolojan, when asked if he had a partner in Nicușor Dan.

“Mr. President's decisions and he chooses them. When I accepted the position I knew it was not an easy situation. I tried to carry out this mandate with dignity. That's what I'm doing,” Bolojan said.

However, the prime minister also commented on the role of mediator assumed by the president: “The intention to mediate is correct, but logic and common sense work in certain conditions. In others, they don't.”

The PSD-AUR censure motion will be voted on on May 5

PSD and AUR submitted the censure motion against the Bolojan Government on Tuesday. The announcement regarding the intention to submit it had been made on Monday, by the social democrat Marian Neacșu and Petrișor Peiu from AUR, while the president Nicușor Dan had consultations in Cotroceni with the leaders of the broken coalition, on the topic of PNRR and the SAFE program.

The motion was signed by 254 parliamentarians, and to lead to the dismissal of the Bolojan Government, it will need a majority of at least 233 votes in the plenary session of the Parliament. PSD, AUR, POT, SOS, PACE and non-affiliates together have 281 votes.

The leadership of the Parliament established that the motion will be read on Wednesday, from 12 o'clock, and will be voted on in secret, with ballots, on Tuesday, May 5, from 11 o'clock.
