Smart traffic lights that automatically turn red for speeding drivers installed in a major city in the country

Brașov City Hall has installed smart traffic lights on one of the city's busiest thoroughfares, Griviței Boulevard, in the area of the Fartec crossing, which automatically turn red when drivers exceed the legal speed limit, writes Brașov.net.

The systems were installed at two pedestrian crossings, near the intersection with Codrii Cosminului street and in the Transgaz area.

Speed cameras detect the speed of cars, and if the legal limit is exceeded, the traffic light changes to red for about 10 seconds, forcing the driver to stop.

According to local authorities, the measure was extended after a similar system was previously installed on Lungă Street, where four such systems were installed.

At the same time, the operation of pedestrian traffic lights remains unchanged. Crossing is still done by pressing the dedicated button, and the intelligent system intervenes only in the case of vehicles exceeding the speed limit.
