A fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon in a studio apartment in the municipality of Sibiu resulted in the death of a 65-year-old man. Another 21 people were evacuated from the block, and the first data show that the fire started from a cigarette ember.

A strong fire that broke out during the afternoon of Tuesday, April 28, in a studio apartment on the third floor of a block in the municipality of Sibiu ended tragically, after a 65-year-old man was found charred inside the home. Following the intervention of the authorities, 21 people were evacuated from the building as a precaution.
According to the information provided by ISU Sibiu, the fire broke out in a studio apartment located in a building with four floors and an attic on Șoimului street, and two fire trucks, a ladder truck, an extrication truck and a SMURD crew were urgently mobilized to the scene, which intervened to limit the fire and protect the tenants.
21 people were evacuated from the block and, luckily, none of them needed medical attention.
After extinguishing the fire, the intervention teams discovered inside the apartment the charred body of the owner, a 65-year-old man, who could not be saved.
According to the representatives of the Sibiu County Police Inspectorate, the body was taken over by forensic doctors for the necropsy, which will determine the exact cause of death.
The first conclusions of the firefighters thus indicate that the fire was accidentally caused by the embers of a cigarette that was not extinguished properly.
“Following the fire that started with a flame on a sofa, the studio apartment, which has an area of approximately 30 square meters, was flooded with smoke. The staircase was also flooded with smoke. The probable cause of the fire was the embers from a cigarette.” transmitted ISU Sibiu.
At the same time, the policemen of the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Sibiu Municipality Police opened a criminal case for manslaughter and manslaughter, to establish all the circumstances in which the tragedy occurred.
