The last country to join the EU was Croatia in 2013. Currently, both Montenegro and Albania are considered the most advanced countries in the accession negotiation process.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky repeated his call for the full integration of his country with the EU and the start of negotiations in all chapters. Meanwhile, Moldova officially started accession talks on June 25, 2024, covering all 33 chapters. The authorities in Chisinau, which declare a pro-Western course, plan to complete negotiations by 2028 so that Moldova can be ready to join the EU by 2030.
