The radish harvest may be of poor quality if gardeners ignore key conditions. They were named by the Ukrainian publication “On Pension”.
The main reason why radishes crack is sudden changes in humidity. When the soil dries out, root growth slows down and the skin thickens. After abundant watering, the radish abruptly absorbs water, and the pulp breaks the shell.
To avoid this, it is necessary to maintain uniform humidity. If it is not possible to water radishes often, mulching will help.
Excess nitrogen causes too rapid growth, causing the tissues to become loose, voids and cracks appear. It is not recommended to add fresh organic matter to radish beds.
It will be effective to use balanced mixtures with potassium and phosphorus or add wood ash. This will help strengthen the structure of the root crop.
