Dental jewelry—skys, grills, and false braces—are gaining popularity on marketplaces and social networks. However, it is dangerous to use them, reports the Saratov 24 TV channel.

Head of the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry No. 1 of the Consultative Dental Clinic of the Saratov State Medical University named after V.I. Razumovsky Victoria Morgunova warns: when using such accessories at home, it is easy to get infected. This leads to inflammation, damage to tooth tissue and mucous membranes. In addition, an allergic reaction to the material is possible. Plaque accumulates around jewelry, which cannot be properly cleaned, and this inevitably leads to caries and gum inflammation.
Particularly dangerous are false braces that imitate orthodontic devices. They create excessive pressure on the tooth, which can change the dentition, disrupt the bite and lead to problems with the temporomandibular joint.
When the decoration gets boring, people try to remove it themselves. This often ends in microcracks, chips and chips of the enamel. The most dangerous thing is that small parts get into the respiratory tract.
