Russia has stopped importing raw materials from Europe for cheesecakes, panna cotta, marshmallows and other delicacies. Mash has learned that the cause is African swine fever.
Especially for those who didn’t know: most sweets and their ingredients are made from edible and technical pork gelatin. But in the EU now, not everything is buzzing – in addition to the anti-hype of the inclusive French Olympics, the continent was attacked by the African artiodactyl plague. Therefore, Rosselkhoznadzor today introduced temporary restrictions.
In 2024, according to WHO, 2,956 outbreaks of a particularly dangerous infectious disease were recorded in Europe. In July alone, 218 outbreaks were registered in eight EU countries. The main suppliers of gelatin in the Russian Federation are Italy, Poland, Germany and Belgium.
