I dreamed of becoming a singer
According to Sumskaya, in her youth she dreamed of not only playing on stage, but also becoming a singer.
“A theater actor is surrounded by partners. I don’t really gravitate towards one-man performances. I think that it’s still more comfortable to work in the theater with partners. But vocal performances – here it’s like this is such a micro-theatrical composition. At least, it was interesting for me as a theater actress when in 1991 I wanted to take part in the Maria music festival, which at one time began in Truskavets. And I was just filming a film. “A crime with many unknowns” by Ivan Franko. I was there, I thought: “Well, how can I not take advantage of this opportunity?”
The actress noted that it was then that she met many artists and still maintains relationships with them.

The actress admitted that it was important for her to know what her parents, Ukrainian actors Vyacheslav Sumskoy and Anna Opanasenko-Sumskaya, thought about her career.
“The views of my father and mother on my creative work were very important. They were so busy with their professional activities, so from time to time, when my father or mother passed by Kyiv and entered the theater, just their presence was extremely important to me. They did not spoil me with this very often, but now, of course, these are only memories. But it was, and even isolated comments were very practical for me, very valuable now years later,” said Sumskaya.
She noted: the name Sumskikh, well-known in the acting community, did not at all prevent her from achieving her heights and successes.
Obstacles in the profession and criticism
According to Sumskaya, in the acting profession it is impossible without obstacles and difficulties.
“They even say that if you don’t suffer, don’t suffer in your work, in achieving some result, supposedly it won’t work out. Well, you can’t rely on that, of course,” she added.
The actress also spoke about the criticism directed at her.
“Where someone tells you something, something is not the way you would like it to be, well, you just need to discard it, push it aside, because it will actually interfere,” she shared her experience.
About working on television
For seven years, starting in the fall of 2003, Sumskaya was the host of the “Key Moment” show on the Inter channel.
“It was such a national reality show. It was truly reality. There was no deception. This, on the one hand, is very interesting, because people came with such an armful of problems that had not been solved during their lives. Can you imagine how they could not only be solved, but at least helped in these 15 minutes of the program, which was allocated to this or that?” – she said.
About star fever
The actress noted that she has never been characterized by any manifestation of stardom.
“And especially today, dear friends, what kind of stardom can there be when our stars now depend on our military, and they are for us our starry sky, our angels, our rescuers, behind whom we stand, behind whose backs we are. Oh, what can I say? I never considered myself a star,” she clarified. “I just live in the world, I have some problems of my own, I have friends, hobbies, I like to go to see my colleagues in the theaters.”

According to the actress, in order to achieve heights in the profession, discipline and consistency are important, as well as faith in your goal and the desire to achieve it at all costs, regardless of all obstacles.
“I think this applies to everyone. There are no exceptions,” she assured.

According to Natalya Sumskaya, she no longer counts how many years she lived in marriage with her husband, Ukrainian artist Anatoly Khostikoev, who had already been married twice before. Before meeting him, Sumskaya was married to Ukrainian cameraman Igor Mamai and raised her daughter Darina, who was born in 1982.
In 1996, the acting couple had a son, Vyacheslav, and they got married when the child was already three years old.
“There was no time to do this. We are actors – rehearsals, performances. But we need to set aside time, gather our relatives and so on. Therefore, we went to get married when we had a boy in our arms in a suit with a bow tie, everything was as it should be,” she explained.
Sumskaya emphasized that the secret of her long and happy marriage with Khostikoev is that they are both passionate about one thing they love – acting in the theater.
“Of course, this is the very image of a man that he created even before we united our destinies. He was so popular that I, more than a dozen or a hundred girls and women fell in love,” admitted the actress.
