Every eMAG customer will pay a fee on every order starting today, and the company has two explanations for it

The largest online trading platform in Romania introduces a new tax that will be added to the price of each order, writes the Economedia website.
“Starting with April 17, 2026, eMAG introduces an operational service cost of 1% of the value of the products ordered, of a minimum of 1.49 lei (VAT included), but no more than 3.99 lei (VAT included), and it applies to all orders placed on the platform,” the company said for the quoted source.
The macroeconomic context
eMAG claims that this tax was introduced because of the company's investments in recent years, but also because of the macroeconomic context.
“The decision comes as a result of the company's sustained investments that we have made in recent years to improve the buying experience, as well as the technical infrastructure, in a macroeconomic context marked by volatility. The cost is displayed transparently before the order is finalized. This decision does not involve additional actions on the part of our sellers,” the company reports.
