Russians were reminded how the “maternity” period for pensions is considered from this year

Russians were explained the new rules for calculating the insurance period for pensions, which came into force in 2026. As Yamal 1 writes, the changes are primarily beneficial to parents with many children, families with twins and triplets, as well as those who have rural experience.
Previously, leave to care for a child up to one and a half years was counted as length of service, but in total no more than six years – that is, a maximum of four children. Now this restriction has been completely removed. The insurance period will include the time spent caring for all children without an upper limit. This is especially true for parents who have five or more children: for each additional child, both length of service and pension coefficients will now be calculated.
Separately, the rules for families where two or more children were born at the same time were amended. The periods of leave to care for each child will be summed up according to the actual duration. For example, in case of twins, three years will be counted as experience, in case of triplets – up to four and a half years, and in the case of the birth of four children – up to six years. There are also no restrictions on the total duration of such experience.
The same amendments were made to the calculation of rural experience. Non-working pensioners who live in a village and have worked in agriculture for at least 30 years receive a 25% bonus to the fixed payment. It persists even when moving to the city. Now this length of service will include without any restrictions all periods of parental leave up to one and a half years.
The changes were approved by government decree. They are effective from January 1, 2026 and apply to both future pensioners and those already receiving a pension. The latter can apply for recalculation.
