“The heart of Europe beats faster.” EU leaders began congratulating Madyar on his victory in the Hungarian elections


French President Emmanuel Macron reported in X that he called Madyar to congratulate him on his victory.

“France welcomes the victory of democratic participation, the commitment of the Hungarian people to the values ​​of the European Union, as well as Hungary's European commitment. Together, let us move forward towards a more sovereign Europe,” Macron wrote.




German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also congratulated Madyar on his success. “The Hungarian people have made a choice. My heartiest congratulations on your electoral success, dear Peter Madyar! I look forward to working with you. Let's join forces for a strong, secure and above all united Europe!” – he wrote.




Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni congratulated Madyar and wished him success. She also thanked the current Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, “for many years of close cooperation.”

“Italy and Hungary are countries bound by deep bonds of friendship, and I am confident that we will continue constructive cooperation in the interests of our peoples and will solve common problems at the European and international levels,” Meloni wrote.




European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote briefly: “Tonight the heart of Europe beats stronger in Hungary.”




Context

Parliamentary elections were held in Hungary on April 12, in which, according to preliminary vote counts, the opposition Tisza party won. Orban has already admitted defeat to his Fidesz party and congratulated his rivals on their victory.
