Iranian state media confirmed on Saturday that trilateral peace talks had begun in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, aimed at ending the six-week-long war between the US and Israel on Iran. Earlier, the news about the start of negotiations was reported by the American CBS television.

The start of talks was reported by Iran's state television and the Fars agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The American and Pakistani media were the first to report the start of negotiations. The Pakistani authorities are a mediator in the talks, which began with separate meetings between the country's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Iranian and US delegations. Their effect is to establish the agenda and format of appropriate negotiations.
The Iranian delegation is headed by the Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Bager Ghalibaf, and also includes, among others, Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi. In turn, the American delegation consists of Vice President JD Vance, Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the US President's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Saturday marks 6 weeks since Israel and the US started the war against Iran. Two days later, the Israeli military operation began in southern Lebanon, which – as declared by the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – is to lead to the destruction of the Iranian-financed terrorist group Hezbollah.
