Civilian casualties increased. Most of the deaths from Russian strikes are in cities located far from the front line – UN

Analysts noted that at least 211 civilians were killed in Ukraine in March and another 1,206 were injured. This is 49% more than in February and 29% more than in March 2025.

Most civilian casualties for the month occurred in front-line areas, where 63% of the dead and wounded were the result of daily attacks using short-range drones, artillery and aerial bombs. However, short-range drones were the deadliest single type of weapon in March, with 66 people killed and 369 injured.

In the country as a whole, attacks by long-range weapons—missiles and attack drones—continue to cause the largest share of civilian casualties. They mainly affect cities and towns located far from the front line.

The report also noted that civilian casualties for the month increased significantly compared to previous periods. Strikes were recorded in 19 regions of Ukraine and in Kyiv.

Separately, the monitors indicated that the vast majority of victims – 97% – ended up in territories controlled by the Ukrainian government.

In addition, attacks on energy, rail and port infrastructure continue to significantly impact daily life. Railway facilities in at least 14 regions have been hit hardest, making it difficult to evacuate the population and deliver essential supplies.
