Cristian Tudor Popescu noticed an “unusual phenomenon” and notes Mircea Lucescu's greatest performance

On the day Mircea Lucescu is buried, the writer and journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu writes that he was surprised by the extent of the reactions in European football after the death of the Romanian coach. But he also found the explanation for that.
“Mircea Lucescu can be considered the greatest Romanian coach, but, speaking strictly in terms of numbers and performances, some say that he does not rise to the level of the great coaches of the world. Indeed, I was also surprised by the scope of Lucescu's European image upon his death. Let a minute of silence be dedicated to you at the Camp Nou, in the opening of the UEFA Champions League match, Barcelona-Atletico de Madrid, when you did not play, did not train in Spain and did not perform in the most important European interclub competition, is amazing. Even in France, Lucescu didn't work, and yet, the memorable moment for him took place at the Parc des Princes, before PSG-Liverpool in the UCL”, writes Cristian Tudor Popescu in a text published on Facebook.
He says he has only one explanation for this “unusual phenomenon”. “Beyond his records, Mircea Lucescu left good, strong and deep traces in the people who met him, whether coaches, whether players, whether Romanians, whether foreigners, whether friends or opponents. And, after all, isn't this the greatest performance of a human life?”.
Mircea Lucescu died on Tuesday at the age of 80. Read all the information on this topic on Golazo.
