Russia, “close coordination” with a Middle Eastern country, based on strategic partnership, to solve the crisis

Russia and the United Arab Emirates agreed to coordinate their efforts to facilitate a peaceful solution to the crisis in the Middle East, the Foreign Ministry in Moscow reported on Tuesday, after a telephone conversation between the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergey Lavrov, and his Emirati counterpart, Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, informs the EFE news agency.

The two ministers “reaffirmed their commitment to maintain close coordination in foreign policy between Moscow and Abu Dhabi in order to facilitate a peaceful solution to the crisis in the Middle East, based on international law and with full respect for the legitimate interests of the states in the region”, states the official statement published by the Russian ministry, according to Agerpres.

Also on this occasion, the two foreign ministers had an exchange of views on the “unprecedented escalation” of the political and military situation in the Persian Gulf.

“The importance of an immediate end to hostilities that cause human casualties and serious damage to vital civilian infrastructure, including in countries not involved in the armed conflict, was emphasized,” reads the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow.

During the telephone conversation, “various current issues related to the development of the strategic partnership between Russia and the United Arab Emirates” were also addressed.

In addition, Minister Sergei Lavrov condemned the recent attack on the UAE embassy in Damascus and said it was a gross violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
