In Krasnoyarsk, a court sentenced members of a criminal group for fraud with shared-equity apartments. This was reported by the press service of the regional prosecutor's office.

In 2020, a 38-year-old Krasnoyarsk woman with experience as a realtor recruited 10 people to defraud people who invested their savings in shared construction projects.

The accomplices drew up documents and SIM cards for the “dummy” seller-investor, making him the owner of the rights to an apartment in a building that had not yet been built. After that, advertisements for the sale of this non-existent property appeared on the Internet.

“When there was a buyer ready to part with their savings, the group prepared an agreement for the assignment of the right to claim. So that the victim would have no doubts, the transaction took place at the MFC – with the real conclusion of the contract and the immediate submission of documents for state registration. For the average person, this looked like a guarantee of the purity of the transaction. The client, full of hopes for a new apartment, counted out the bills, and a few days later received a “surprise” from government agencies: a refusal to register due to the “seller’s” lack of rights to a share in the construction,” the supervisory agency said.

From December 2020 to January 2022, scammers were able to sell 11 shared-equity construction projects. As a result, 10 citizens were injured, and the total amount of damage exceeded 30 million rubles.

The court found 8 accomplices – 7 men and 1 woman – guilty of fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced them from 3 years of suspended imprisonment to 8 years in a general regime colony.

The criminal case against two participants in the crime was terminated due to the conclusion of a contract for military service. Another died before sentencing.
