Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan wanted to thank his Moldovan counterpart for approving the law on the extension of facilities for the port of Giurgiulesti in the Republic of Moldova, which “allows the port of Constanța to acquire it by the end of April, thus forming a maritime and fluvial logistics hub that will support the transit of goods on the Romania-Republic of Moldova relationship and will highlight the logistics potential of the Black Sea”.

“We also discussed collaboration in the field of energy infrastructure, in the context of ongoing interconnection projects, as well as aspects related to road connectivity (Moldovan highway, bridge projects over the Prut River) and the expansion of coordinated border control. At the same time, I addressed the development of economic and cultural cooperation. I once again confirmed to the Prime Minister Romania's support for the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union”, noted the head of the Cabinet of Ministers from Bucharest on his Facebook page.

For his part, Alexandru Munteanu thanked his Romanian counterpart for the support offered by Romania to his country in the process of joining the European Union.

Discussions with the President of Romania

Also in Bucharest, the Moldovan dignitary had a meeting with the leader from Cotroceni, Nicușor Dan, the discussions being focused on “the urgent common priorities on which we must focus, for the benefit of our citizens”.

“During the difficult period at the regional and international level that we are going through, I wanted to assure Prime Minister Munteanu that the Republic of Moldova can always count on Romania's support, whether we are talking about joining the European Union, ensuring energy security or increasing resilience in the face of hybrid threats. We have many major projects that give more and more significant consistency to our bilateral relationship. Thus, cross-border interconnection projects in the fields of energy, infrastructure, transport and digital networks are particularly important to increase the degree of connection of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, through Romania”, noted the president of Romania, Nicușor Dan, on his Facebook page.

Also, the leader from Cotroceni emphasized that he encourages “increasing Romanian investments that generate jobs in the Republic of Moldova”.

And Alexandru Munteanu spoke about the impact of Russia's war in Ukraine on his country, stating that it continues to affect “peace and everyday life – through dangerous fuel spills on the Dniester, drones flying over the airspace or disconnections from electricity – during which Romania, through unconditional aid, shows us what true solidarity means”.

“We work side by side, united by the same aspiration: to see the Republic of Moldova permanently anchored in the great European family. And I am sure that, together with reliable friends and partners like Romania, Moldova is moving forward”, concluded the prime minister from Chisinau.

Also in the Romanian capital, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu had a meeting with the representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania), this being focused “on the consolidation of regional economic cooperation and the capitalization of investment opportunities in the Republic of Moldova”.

Romania is the main commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the main foreign investor, with investments of 300 million dollars and 1,744 companies.

The challenges of Chisinau

Also, the Moldovan Prime Minister participated online in the “Romania Government Roundtable” conference. Alexandru Munteanu stated that, although his country faces major challenges generated by the conflicts in the region, from attacks on energy infrastructure and pollution of the Dniester River to attempts to interfere in democracy and the increase in fuel costs, it is advancing during its accession to the Union.

“We are advancing decisively on our way to join the EU. This goal is no longer a matter of 'if', but of how quickly we achieve it.” Accelerating this process is our firm commitment and an important factor of stability for the whole region”, explained Alexandru Munteanu.

This is the second visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, to Romania, the first one taking place in November last year, shortly after taking office.

Then, Alexandru Munteanu had several meetings, including with his Romanian counterpart, Ilie Bolojan.
