The head of TVR complains that her salary is too high. “Multiply by 10.5”

Adriana Săftoiu, the president and general director of Romanian Television (TVR), says that she has an oversized salary due to a provision in the collective labor contract negotiated with the unions.

Adriana Săftoiu's statements were made in the Judecata de Acum podcast, published on March 26, and were quoted by G4media.

According to her, the law says that he must have a salary similar to a minister, of 21,000 lei gross, but, thanks to a “coefficient” in the Collective Labor Agreement, the salary ends up being more than 2 times higher.

“The law says something very simple: the head of TV is assimilated to a minister from the point of view of salary: 21,000 gross lei. What can you see, my salary is much higher. I am the president of the Board of Directors, but also the General Director. The General Director must have an employment book. I discovered that there is an annex to the Collective Labor Agreement with some coefficients. The coefficient is 10.5 for the president-general manager of TVR. This coefficient is multiplied by the minimum salary on TVR, about 4250 lei. Multiply it by 10.5”, explained Adriana Săftoiu.

She added that other directors and producers in TVR also benefit from these high salary ratios. The head of TVR also said that, in order to lower her salary, a renegotiation of this act is needed.

“In order to reduce my salary, I have to open the Collective Labor Agreement and reduce the coefficients, which lead to very high values, for producers, for directors. By negotiating with the unions that follow the CMM, we start with this coefficient, which will be reduced,” said the head of TVR.

Adriana Săftoiu added that the TVR operating law is outdated and should be updated.

“We operate on a law from 1994. The law is a very big problem. The Court of Accounts asked me to clarify whether I am on the Administrative Code or the Labor Code. I addressed the Parliament to clarify. I received the answer from the Parliament that it is not within their competence”, Săftoiu said.
