Explosion in a block of flats in Caracal due to a gas build-up

An explosion took place on Saturday evening in an apartment in a block in the municipality of Caracal, Olt county, without being followed by a fire. The owner of the house was transported to the hospital with burns, informs News.ro.
A number of 25 people were evacuated from the block, preliminary information showing that four homes are affected. Firefighters say the explosion was caused by a gas build-up from the stove.
“From the preliminary data made available by the State Construction Inspectorate team, the resistance structure of the block was not affected. The accumulation of gas most likely occurred from a stove. The owner of the apartment, aged 57, had burns, first and second degree, on the face and upper limbs. The patient was transferred by a SAJ crew to the Slatina Hospital”, announced ISU Olt.
According to the cited source, tenants can return to their homes. The gas supply is still cut off on the staircase affected by the explosion.
“Until this moment, 25 people have been evacuated from the ground floor + 4-storey building. The owner of the apartment where the explosion occurred has burns on approximately 10% of her body surface and was transported to the Caracal Hospital. According to the preliminary assessment, 4 homes are affected”, said the cited source.
