After three days of trial, on Friday, March 27, the court sentenced Amélie D. to 20 years in prison, and Carole D. to 15 years in prison, writes Le Figaro.

The facts date from the summer of 2021, over a year after the beginning of the relationship. Enrique B. then began to suspect that Amélie D. and Carole D. had poisoned him.

When I drank the coffee, it didn't taste strange, but I had suspicions because of my reactions: I had lost track of time, I was exhausted”he declared, on Thursday, in front of the court. The two put anxiolytics in their drink.

For almost two years, the man was subjected to several poisoning attempts. After the coffee episode, later repeated in larger doses, Amélie D. and Carole D. added aconite, a lethal herb discovered in the series “You”, to Enrique's chili con carne.

Later, inspired by the series “Breaking Bad”, they inserted castor seeds into olives, and their skins were hidden in the victim's tobacco package. Amélie D. then tested the antifreeze on the family dog, saying: “If it goes to the dog, it will go to him”according to the mother's statement.

The animal, in agony, was euthanized after 48 hours. Enrique B. claims that he too was poisoned with antifreeze, although the main accused denies it.

A few months later, Amélie D. would have resorted to another method, cutting the brakes of Enrique's car. Convinced that she had caused his inexplicable conditions, drowsiness, palpitations and tingling, the man confronted her and she confessed all about “criminal project”while he secretly recorded it.

In the process, the very close relationship between mother and daughter was highlighted, the court appreciating that Carole D. acted under the influence of her daughter, after she declared that she was “caught in a mechanism”.

Carole D. declared in court that she did not have the courage to refuse her daughter and that she was the one who initiated the poisoning plan, claiming that she acted out of a desire to please her.

The examinations indicated that the mother was under the influence of a relationship “fusion”, while the court described Amélie D. as immature. Witnesses spoke about its negative impact on those close to her, but also about her fear of abandonment and her history of suicide attempts.
