In 2026, Orthodox Christians will celebrate Palm Sunday on April 5, recalls Yamal 1. The holiday falls on the last Sunday before Easter, which this year falls on April 12.

The willow can be blessed twice: in the evening of April 4, on Lazarus Saturday, at the all-night vigil, or in the morning of April 5 after the Divine Liturgy.

Blessed branches are kept at home for a whole year – near icons, on a windowsill or in a vase with water. You cannot throw them in the trash. When the time comes to get rid of last year's willow, it is burned, floated down the river, or taken to a temple.
