What's next for the Romanian national team after the defeat in Turkey. Mircea Lucescu's statements at the end of the match

The Romanian national team was defeated 1-0 by Turkey, on Thursday evening, in Istanbul, in the semi-final of the World Cup qualifier, so it will miss the seventh consecutive edition of the final tournament, in which it has not participated since 1998.

After the failure in Istanbul, the “tricolors” will play a non-stakes match against the loser of the semi-final between Slovakia and Kosovo, away on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately, we lost. It was a balanced match”, was Mircea Lucescu's first reaction, live on Prima TV.

“The mistake that led to the goal was a mistake that could have been easily avoided,” continued the Romania coach.

GOLAZO.ro, the sports website of HotNews, writes that the match against Turkey was the penultimate one for coach Mircea Lucescu at the helm of the first national team. He will leave the national team after Tuesday's friendly, and the Romanian Football Federation already has the name of the replacement, Gică Hagi.

In September, Romania will begin its adventure in the League of Nations, where it climbed a valuable urn and will meet opponents better rated than in the previous campaign.

The Nations League schedule looks like this:

  • September 25: Sweden vs Romania
  • September 28: Romania vs Bosnia
  • October 2: Poland vs Romania
  • October 5: Romania vs Sweden
  • November 14: Romania vs Poland
  • November 17: Bosnia vs Romania
