Electric cars are cheaper than combustion cars. The owners have a problem


The analysis of the Carvago platform shows that the difference in the loss of value between electric cars and combustion cars reaches up to 26 percentage points. after three years of operation – reports the “Rzeczpospolita” daily. The platform analyzed ten pairs of comparable car models from the end of 2022 to the end of 2025, using data from the German automotive market. In all ten cases, the electric model lost much more value than its combustion counterpart.
Used electric vehicles face significant sales hurdles. One of the reasons is the aggressive pricing policy of manufacturers of new electric cars.

— Owners of such cars have a big problem with selling them. This is due not only to low demand, but also to the drop in prices of new electric cars, which are offered with large discounts, constituting huge competition for used cars – explained Mateusz Szczypka from the website Suprauto.pl.
Dariusz Piwiński from Carvago Polska points to the dynamic development of technology as the second key factor in reducing the value of used electric cars. Models from a few years ago are inferior to newer designs in terms of range and battery charging speed.

“Electromobility in Poland, instead of accelerating with new cars, will drive used electric cars to the garage. After the sales boom caused by the now ended subsidy program, the wave of e-cars will soon begin to flood the secondary market. Because so far, there are no buyers for such second-hand vehicles, although used electric cars are getting cheaper,” warns “Rzeczpospolita”.
