To prevent onions from growing small, the plant needs timely support. You can make your own effective fertilizer that simultaneously nourishes the soil and protects against insects from three simple ingredients. How to do this is described on March 18 in a publication on the website of the Ukrainian publication “On Pensions.”
It is necessary to feed onions during the period when the bulb begins to actively form. This is a critical moment that determines the future size of the harvest.
Composition, preparation and application of fertilizing
To prepare the fertilizer you will need:
- Mustard powder – it improves soil microflora and repels some pests.
- Tobacco dust serves as the main barrier against onion flies and other insects.
- Wood ash is a valuable source of potassium and phosphorus, necessary for the growth of large heads.
Mix all the ingredients in equal proportions and spread the finished dry mixture in a thin layer between the rows of onions. The soil must be dry. After distributing the powder, the soil should be slightly loosened or watered.
This combined feeding provides a complex effect – ash provides nutrition, and mustard and tobacco create a protective dome, supporting healthy plant growth until harvest.
