US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the Iranians are talking to the US side and want to reach an agreement, but – as he said – they are not ready for it yet. He also added that he does not know who rules Iran.

– They want to make an agreement. They're talking to our people, Trump said, answering media questions at the White House. – They're negotiating. And we talk. Someone asked: why talk to them at all? I talk to everyone because sometimes good things come out of it. But I don't know if they're ready yet. They're taking a beating, Trump stressed.

At the same time, he added that he does not know who rules Iran. – We don't even know their leaders. All their leaders are dead. We don't know who we are dealing with, he continued. – There are people who want to negotiate. We have no idea who they are, he added.

Referring to the new leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, he emphasized that many people say that he is “very disfigured, that he lost a leg.” He noted that some say he is seriously injured, others say he is dead. “No one is saying they are 100 percent healthy,” Trump continued.

– We haven't seen him at all. This can be caused by many factors. We don't know if he's alive or dead. No one saw him, it's unusual, he said.

Also on Saturday, Trump expressed his belief that Iran wanted to conclude an agreement, but, as he then emphasized, it was not an agreement he would accept.
