Gloria Bistrita's handball players defeated CSM Bucharest, score 21-18and they celebrated good minutes with the fans, on the lawn of the multipurpose hall in the Capital.

Gloria took a big step towards the first title in the club's history. With four stages left to play, the Bistrites are in their hands in the battle with CSM Bucharest.

Beyond the magnificent performance of Renata Arruda, 17 interventions, the students of Carlos Viver had another advantage. The fans from Transylvania made themselves heard during the entire game. The fair-play attitude of the Bucharest supporters is also worth noting. According to FRH, 3000 people attended the game.

It's hard to get interviews in the chaos of the multipurpose, but the “tricolor” pivot Yaroslava Burlacenko managed to convey some thoughts in the dialogue with GSP: “My God! The best fans in the world!”. He continued with a brief analysis of the situation at Gloria.

It was a thrilling, intense match. Both teams prepared very carefully, but I'm glad we won. Some very important points for us. I feel very well. I am ready at any moment to come into the game and help the team. It is important for us to achieve our goals. Everyone who comes in wants to do the best job possible. We are not saying that we are already champions. We treat every match seriously, we take it from 0-0 and we do everything possible to impose ourselves on all fronts

Lorena Ostase would enjoy a replay of the duel in the Final Four of the Champions League: “I'm glad we were able to beat them at home, as they also beat us at home. We came to Bistrita for big aspirations, for a big team to fight for the title. All the changes made here were in this sense! CSM had a very good run in the Champions League, we shouldn't take them for granted. Not even nine! I hope that the Romanian teams go as far as possible in Europe”.

  • CSM Bucharest is directly qualified for the quarter-finals. There he will meet the winner of the double Esbjerg (Denmark) – Podravka (Croatia)
  • Gloria Bistrita will play a play-off to reach the quarters. On March 22, he will travel to Denmark, to Ikast. On March 28, at home, the decisive leg will take place. In the quarters, the opponents would be the French from Brest.

Sadness at CSM Bucharest, but the title is not mathematically lost

Bojana Popovic, the coach of CSM Bucharest, offered some explanations for the failure, but says that she is not abandoning the fight for the title.

“I think we started the game very badly, a lot of missed chances. We didn't find our rhythm in attack at all. It looked like we were finding it after the break, but we missed a couple of shots from 7 meters… The defense worked, it fought the whole game. That's it, we have to accept it. We're disappointed, but we have to think ahead.

I don't know if we lost the title, it was just a game today. I treated it like any other game. Who knows? Maybe I lost it, we'll see. It's frustrating to lose no matter what time of the season, it's not a nice feeling. The girls suffer, the staff as well. He's just having a bad day. I missed too much! The girls didn't feel the throws, they shot at Arruda, and confidence gradually decreased,” Popovic said.

Indeed, the battle for first place is not over. Gloria Bistrita has a point lead, but a tougher schedule. It will have two very complicated trips, against the occupants of the 3rd and 4th places, Corona Brașov and SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea.

  • Remaining matches for CSM Bucharest: travel to Brașov, home with Galati, travel to Zalău, home with Târgu Jiu.
  • The remaining matches for Bistrita: home with Craiova, trip to Râmnicu Vâlcea, trip to Brașov, home with Galati.
