Gawkowski, who on Wednesday in the European Parliament in Brussels took part in the meeting of the Political Group of Social Democrats (S&D) and met with its boss Iratxe Garcia Perez, in an interview with journalists commented on a possible cyber attack on the state registers. “Nothing happened that we would not experience in recent days or weeks,” said the minister of digitization.

On Wednesday before noon in Poland there were temporary difficulties in access to certain public services. According to some media, there was a cyber attack. The Ministry of Digitization did not confirm these reports, only informed that there was no “effective cyber attack”.

Gawkowski said that Polish state registers are already stable, but you should expect further attempts to attack our critical infrastructure and react to them. “Poland is in the digital war with Russia, which we probably all know. We are also aware of the need to invest larger funds and the need to pay more attention to what is happening in cyberspace,” he emphasized.

The head of the department of digitization assessed that Poland is the most attacked state in the EU because it is the greatest partner of Ukraine. “For this reason, Russia presupposes attempts to attack us day by day,” he said. He also noted that “Polish cyberspace is stable and safe.”

Gawkowski noticed that the digital war with Russia is not only cybernetic attacks on critical infrastructure, but also disinformation and attempts to interfere in choices, to cause anxiety in society and recruit people who would like to work for Russian intelligence. “There are a lot of these fields of Russian interest. Poland must show that it has a strong cyberter that effectively protects it from attacks,” he emphasized.

The state registers system combines the most important Polish databases, such as: PESEL register, ID card register, register of passport documents, registry registry, contact details register, state decorations system, central register of opposition, central registry of voters, register of reservations of PESEL numbers.
