Orlen comments on the spikes in fuel prices. The company explains the global crisis

According to the Orlen Press Office, which published its announcement on the X website (former Tiwtter), the key factor influencing fuel prices in Poland are changes on global stock exchanges, which have increased the prices of gasoline, diesel and oil.

It was noted that the prices of finished fuels are more important for the Polish market than those of raw crude oil. This is due to the fact that approximately 30 percent fuel available in Poland is imported. “If domestic prices were much lower than global prices, importers would incur losses, which could result in fuel shortages in the country,” Orlen emphasizes, recalling the crisis of 2023.
The company also draws attention to the threat related to the so-called fuel tourism. As Orlen explains, too low prices in Poland could attract drivers from neighboring countries, which in the past led to excessive consumption of domestic fuel reserves. “Such a phenomenon occurred in 2023, when price differences led to the violation of strategic reserves and disruption of market balance,” reminds the company's press office.

Are fuel price increases short-term?
As for the future, Orlen estimates that the current increases in fuel prices are short-term. Markets usually react violently to global crises, but the situation may stabilize over time. As the company emphasizes, price reductions may occur thanks to, among others: opening new transport routes or increasing production in other regions of the world. At the same time, Orlen does not rule out further price fluctuations in the near future.
The company assures that its priority is to balance prices on the Polish market while securing continuity of supplies. “Our goal is to stabilize the market and sell fuels at the lowest possible prices in the current conditions,” says Orlen's press office.
Orlen also draws attention to disinformation which, according to the company, is spread by Russian trolls and some domestic politicians. According to Orlen, these actions are aimed at fueling anxiety about the fuel situation in Poland.
