Due to Saturday's airstrikes on Iran by the US and Israel, many Middle Eastern countries closed their airspace. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) reported that there is a high risk to civil aviation in the airspace of both Iran and neighboring countries where US bases are located. It recommended that operators refrain from flying.
Numerous airlines canceled flights in the region. On Tuesday, LOT Polish Airlines announced the extension of the suspension of flights to the Middle East. The carrier canceled flights to Dubai until March 6 and to Riyadh until March 8. Connections to Tel Aviv remain suspended until March 18 inclusive.
Flights in the region, apart from LOT, were canceled by, among others: the British airline Virgin Atlantic, Air Arabia, Norwegian Air Shuttle (from and to Dubai), Air France (to and from Tel Aviv and Beirut), the Dutch KLM (on the Amsterdam – Tel Aviv route), Wizz Air (connections with Israel, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Amman; until March 7), Lufthansa (connections with Tel Aviv, Beirut, Oman; until March 7), Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines (connections with Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, Oman), Bulgaria Air (connections with Tel Aviv until March 2) and Air India to all Middle Eastern countries.
On Thursday at noon, Piotr Rudzki from the Chopin Airport press office informed about two planes from the Middle East and a scheduled Thursday flight from Sharjah (UAE). He added that LOT Polish Airlines' decision to launch flights to Dubai will depend on EASA recommendations. (PAP)
