Kremlin message on Gulf conflict: 'It's not our war'

The Kremlin stated on Thursday that the war started by the USA and Israel against Iran is not its war and that Russia should pursue its own interests, “however cynical it may seem”, reports the EFE agency, taken over by Agerpres.
“The ongoing war is not our war. And we have expressed our position from the very beginning that any war can lead to destabilization of the region,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told local media.
“Are we capable of stopping this war? No, we are not. Only those who started it can stop it, which, in our opinion, is what they should do,” added Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman.
Therefore, the Kremlin will once again pursue its own interests, just as it did during the airstrikes carried out last summer also by the US and Israel against Iran.
“We have to do what is in our interest. Now we have to minimize the impact of global convulsions on the Russian economy,” Peskov explained. He insisted that, as far as possible, Russia would probably have to see its interest, “as cynical as it may seem”, but condemned the attacks launched by the US and Israel against Iran.
The representative of the Kremlin also said that Russia appreciates the US mediation in the peace negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, but at the same time notes that Washington “is currently busy with other issues”. However, the Kremlin has “a lot of patience” and “will watch how the situation evolves”, indicated Dmitry Peskov, who said earlier that Russia has not received any request for help from Iran, nor any request for arms deliveries.
