One of the data centers belonging to Amazon Web Services in the United Arab Emirates was seriously damaged on Sunday as a result of the impact of unspecified “objects”. Following the incident, a fire broke out and the communication systems were interrupted.

On Sunday, a power outage occurred at one of Amazon Web Services' facilities in the United Arab Emirates. At around 7:30 a.m. Eastern time (1:30 p.m. Polish time), unspecified “objects” hit the building, which caused “fire and sparks,” we read in “Business Insider.”
Emergency services intervened on site and, in order to control the situation, cut off the power and turned off the data center's generators. These actions were aimed at securing the infrastructure and restoring control over the facility.

According to information provided by Amazon, one Availability Zone may cover one or several data centers. There are three such zones in the United Arab Emirates.
Fire in AWS during attacks
Sunday's fire at an Amazon Web Services facility coincided with U.S. and Israeli military operations targeting Iran, with Iranian forces responding with retaliatory strikes against at least six Gulf states.
On Saturday and Sunday, photos and videos showed missiles streaking across the sky over Dubai. Debris from the captured rockets caused fires and various types of damage in the region. Losses were recorded, among others: at the luxurious Fairmont hotel on Palma and the iconic Burj Al Arab.
Just before 7:30 p.m. ET, AWS reported that some systems were showing “clear signs of recovery,” although power to the data center was still down, Business Insider said.
“We do not currently have an estimated time for power restoration. We recommend that customers who are able to do so use alternate availability zones or other AWS regions, if possible,” the company said in a statement.
