According to Trump, the United States struck the Iranian leadership before Ayatollah Ali Khamenei could succeed in another assassination attempt on him.
Iranian state television announced that Khamenei died on February 28 in a joint US-Israeli attack on Iran.
“I got it before he got me. They tried twice. Well, I got it first,” Trump was quoted as saying by the journalist.
In another phone call that day, President Trump had to give her this thought about the death of Ayatollah Khamenei:
“I got him before he got me. They tried twice. Well I got him first.”

Context
July 13, 2024 during Trump's speech at a campaign rally in the US state of Pennsylvania shots rang outafter which he was quickly removed from the stage by security officers. One of the bullets grazed Trump's ear.
On July 16, CNN, citing its sources, reported that US authorities received intelligence from an intelligence source about Iran preparing a plot to assassinate Trump.
On September 15 in Palm Beach (Florida) near the Trump International Golf Club, where Trump played golf, there was a shooting. Sagittarius was at a distance of 250–450 m from Trump, he specified CNN.
In November, US prosecutors indicted three men in connection with an alleged Iranian plot to kill Trump, Sky News reported.
The FBI has not ruled out the possibility that Tehran was seeking revenge against US officials, including the ex-president, whom they hold responsible for the 2020 drone strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.
