The best feature film at the Gopo 2025 Awards Gala was designated the movie “New Year that was not”, which conquered a total of 9 statues, after being nominated in 13 categories. The 19th edition of the event, which celebrates and rewards the achievements of Romanian cinema annually, took place on Tuesday evening at the “IL Caragiale” National Theater in Bucharest.
Actress Rodica Mandache handed, at the end of the Gopo 2025 Gala, the best feature film: “New Year's New Year,” reports News.ro. “I thank an extraordinary team!”, The director and producer Bogdan Mureşanu reacted.
Bogdan Mureşanu also received the GOPO award for best director, but also for the best scenario for “New Year who was”. “I still consider myself a man of the text, parachuted in a world of the image,” he said.

Dan Piţa, “director of the subtle detail”, honored

The prize for the entire career granted to Ioana Pavelescu was handed over to the actress by the director Laurenciiu Damian, who described her as “a great actress who painted the Romanian screen and who had the power to make some memorable roles.”
The artist reminded those who marked his career: Sergiu Nicolaescu, Amza Pellea, Alexandru Tatos, Gheorghe Dinică. “I love my job to despair,” said the actress.
Florin Mihăilescu, one of the most talented and prolific image directors in the Romanian cinema, was honored with the prize for the entire activity. The distinction honors its essential contribution to defining the aesthetics of some emblematic films.
With a career of over five decades, Florin Mihăilescu has collaborated with directors such as Alexandru Tatos, Mircea Daneliuc, Dan Piţa, Lucian Pintilie and Stere Gulea, but he also carried out an important academic, public and scientific activity.
Ion Olteanu was rewarded at the Gopo gala with a special prize. “Thank you very much for all the applause,” confessed receiving the prize.
Ion Olteanu, one of the most prolific technicians in Romanian cinema, was, for 30 years, a master of lights on the plateau of the most popular Romanian films, being a close collaborator of the director Sergiu Nicolaescu. He also worked with Ion Popescu-Gopo.
The film “@tiktok_cowboy”, r. Anastaseu Ştefan, producer: Adrian Sitaru | Romania | 4Proof Film, won the GOPO prize in the category the best short film.

The juries that set the nominations
The Gopo awards have two pre -selection juries, for the category of feature films and for the documentary and short film categories. The jury for feature films has been made up, as before, from 11 film professionals. The jurors this year were film critics Dana Duma and Ion Indolean, journalist Anca Vancu, directors Marian Crişan and Constantin Popescu, actress Maria Popistaşu, film producer Anamaria Antoci, Image director Ana Drăghici, film curator Bogdan Movileanu, Cultural Consultant Corina Şuteu and Scenaristul Lăzărescu.
From the documentation and short films jury were 5 industry professionals: film critics Cezar Gheorghe and Andreea Chiper, director Serban Georgescu, film producer Velvet Moraru and film selector Anca Păunescu.
42 feature films were found on the proposed list for nominations in the best movie category.
After the announcement of the nominations, over 700 active professionals from all fields of the Romanian film industry are invited to vote to designate the winners of the GOPO trophies, through a voting mechanism provided by the audit and consulting company Romania, with which the organizers of the GOPO prizes have started a partnership since 2011.
The Gopo Awards Gala is organized by the Association for the Promotion of the Romanian Film with the support of the National Cinematography Center and Babel Communications.
The Gopo statuette is made by the sculptor Adrian Ilfoveanu.
