US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth praised the US strikes on Iran in a social media post this evening, describing the strikes as the “consequences” of Iran's refusal to make a deal with the US, CNN writes.
“The Iranian regime had its chance, but it refused to make a deal — and now it's suffering the consequences,” Hegseth said in a post on X.
Hegseth – who, according to a US official, monitored the attacks with President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago – went on to say that Iran's missile production and its navy “will be destroyed”.
“And as President Trump has said his whole life, Iran will never have nuclear weapons,” Hegseth added.
The defense secretary also issued a stern warning: “The United States did not start this conflict, but we will finish it. If you kill or threaten Americans anywhere in the world — as Iran has done — then we will hunt you down and kill you.”
