“Your president is a fraud.” The US team refused to meet with Trump; it was supported by the famous Olympic champion

Trump's speech is scheduled for 4.00 Kyiv time, the White House press service said.

The US President invited both teams to attend his address after they won gold medals at the Olympic Games in the finals against Canada.

The US women's ice hockey team said it was declining Trump's invitation. The team's spokesperson explained that supposedly due to “a busy schedule and pre-planned academic and professional commitments” after the games, the athletes would not be able to participate in the event.

Trump invited the men's team during a call on February 22. Trump jokingly told the team that he would be impeached if he did not invite the women's team as well.

“I must say, we will have to invite a women’s team, you understand that,” said the head of the White House.

It is not yet known whether the men's team will attend the event, NBC News points out.

Czech Olympic champion Dominik Hasek expressed his respect for the US women's team's decision not to attend Trump's speech.

“Yes, your president is a great liar and a fraud who abuses his office to insult and poison his fellow citizens. And yet I believe that it took great courage for you to make this decision,” he wrote in X.
