The former candidate for the presidential elections Călin Georgescu again requested the declassification of the CSAT meeting that took place before the cancellation of the second round of the December 2024 election, stating in the context that “if Nicolae Ceauşescu had had the Constitutional Court, he would probably be a democratic president today”, reports Agerpres.

Călin Georgescu was present on Monday, at the Bucharest Court of Appeal, at a new term of the trial in the preliminary chamber phase, in which he is being tried alongside the group of mercenary Horatiu Potra for actions against the constitutional order.

The court session lasted approximately 5 hours, the situation in the court hallways being tense after dozens of supporters stood in front of the courtroom and chanted slogans in favor of Georgescu.

“Without God, democracy disintegrates and you can see that with the naked eye. I am here, at the Court of Appeal, as I was at the 1st District Court and at the tribunal, on some invented files, because the system and the political class fear democracy and fear the Romanian people. They want you weak, not strong, they want you slaves, not free people, they want you obedient, not intelligent. And because I know that the Romanian people, in November – December 2024, they are afraid of the Romanian people. That is the definition of a coward, before which I was brought. I ask all the judges to go through it, because the fight for the truth does not stop at the gates of the court. whose freedom, democracy and prosperity were stolen, I demand, on their behalf, the declassification of the CSAT meeting and the informal meeting of the Constitutional Court, before the annulment of the elections of December 6, 2024. You know how it is – if Nicolae Ceauşescu had had the Constitutional Court, he would probably be a democratic president today”, claimed Călin Georgescu, upon leaving the trial.

The Bucharest Court of Appeal decided that it will rule on the requests and exceptions raised by Georgescu's lawyers on March 9. In essence, the defense requests that the file be sent back to the General Prosecutor's Office.

The judges postponed the pronouncement

The former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, the mercenary Horaţiu Potra, his son and grandson, as well as the other 20 defendants in the case in which they are accused of actions against the constitutional order and of non-compliance with the arms and ammunition regime were present on Monday at the Bucharest Court of Appeal, where the court was to decide whether to start the trial on the merits, after analyzing some evidence and documents submitted to the case.

At the end of the court session, the magistrates postponed the verdict until March 9.

“Sets a deadline for ruling on the requests and exceptions formulated in the preliminary chamber procedure, according to article 405 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Procedure Code, on 09.03.2026”, is the brief solution of the preliminary chamber judge.

Ambulance called to court for Potra

The session of the Bucharest Court of Appeal was interrupted, Monday afternoon, for a few minutes, after the mercenary Horatiu Potra was hurt in the courtroom and an ambulance was requested, News.ro reported.

According to some sources quoted by News.ro, after Potra was given first aid, the meeting was resumed.

The allegations in this case

Călin Georgescu was sent to court in this second file by the General Prosecutor's Office for complicity in the attempt to commit actions against the constitutional order and the communication of false information, in continuous form (two material documents), together with Horatiu Potra and 20 mercenaries from his group.

Prosecutors claim that Potra's mercenaries aimed to infiltrate the protests organized immediately after the cancellation of the December 2024 presidential election to create chaos.

The action plan would have been drawn up by Călin Georgescu and his associates during the clandestine meeting that took place at a farm in Ciolpani, immediately after the cancellation of the presidential elections.
