Reuters notes that Iran has signaled its willingness to make concessions on its nuclear program in talks with the United States in exchange for lifting sanctions and recognizing the right to enrich uranium to prevent a US attack.

The two sides remain sharply divided after two rounds of talks, even over the scope and sequence of lifting crippling US sanctions, a senior Iranian official told the agency.

Tensions between the US and Iran

However, Reuters reports that Iran has been offering new concessions since the talks ended last week, when the sides appeared to be drifting apart and heading towards armed conflict. Analysts say the move suggests Tehran is trying to keep diplomacy alive and prevent a major U.S. attack.

US President Donald Trump on Friday said he was considering a limited attack on Iran. Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported that the aim of such an attack would be to force Iran to meet demands regarding an agreement on its nuclear program. According to the newspaper, Trump could issue such an order in the coming days.

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian wrote on Sunday in a post on the X website that negotiations with the United States “brought encouraging signs” and added: “We continue to closely monitor U.S. actions and have made all necessary preparations for any potential scenario.”
