It is the first time in the history of Romanian football that a club leader is called to listen to the discussions between the referees, after a match with scandal and great controversies.
In the 86th minute of the match, with the score 1-1, FC Argeș received a free kick. Micovschi executed, and Radu Petrescu whistled a foul in the attack, before Sierra scored. Following the replays presented by television, no foul could be observed in the phase preceding the goal. Given that Radu Petrescu whistled before the goal was scored, the phase could not be analyzed by VAR.
The people of Pitesti caused a big scandal after this match and even announced that they will go to court to ask for damages if the team misses the play-off. Dani Coman had a virulent attack on Radu Petrescu, and the club repeatedly requested that the dialogue between the “central” of the match and the referees in the VAR room be made available to him.
The pressure paid off, as, according to GSP.ro information, Dani Coman was called by Kyros Vassaras and summoned to the FRF headquarters on Thursday.
Dani Coman will listen to the dialogue between Petrescu and the VAR referees
Thus, during Thursday, the head of the referees and the president of FC Argeș will sit together to listen to the discussion from the phase with the reason, in which Radu Petrescu canceled the valid goal of Pitesti, and the VAR room could not intervene, as it had blown the whistle before.
In addition to that erroneous disallowed goal, Coman and Vassaras will also analyze other phases on the limit, challenged by FC Argeș from the match with UTA.
Moreover, Dani Coman had already announced on Wednesday afternoon, after leaving the Disciplinary Commission, that something would follow on Thursday in the case of the arbitration scandal. “There is transparency and you will know more tomorrow. More will happen tomorrow. I have only communicated with Vassaras via email and there is goodwill, thank you in that way.”
Coman also found out his punishment in this case on Wednesday, after he insulted Radu Petrescu, being fined 4,000 lei.
The referees' discussions, heard for the first time by a club official
What will happen on Thursday at the FRF headquarters will be a first, as there has been no case so far when a club manager went to listen to the dialogue directly.
So far, in the Superliga, only two matches have been declassified, with Istvan Kovacs in the center, but each time only the discussion was published on the FRF website.
The first time it happened was in August 2022, after Adrian Mititelu's vehement attack on Istvan Kovacs, after the derby between FCU Craiova and U Craiova, 1-2, when the “central” dictated a penalty for the current leader of the Superliga following Bahassa's intervention. The FRF then decided to make public the images viewed in the VAR room and the dialogue between the center referee and the VAR officials.
The second time the discussions between the referees were declassified it happened in September 2023, also at a match of Istvan Kovacs, between Petrolul and CFR Cluj, when Horia Mladinovic was in the VAR room.
