As the Atomstroyexport press service clarified, the incident, which was called an “extraordinary situation,” occurred with part of the equipment of the nuclear power plant project, but it belongs to the second, non-nuclear circuit of the station and is not part of the reactor. The nature of the damage and the technical causes of the incident have not yet been clarified.
According to RBC sources, the equipment was damaged due to a fall during unloading. The deceased is an employee of an Egyptian contracting organization involved in port work.
The company emphasized that the incident will not affect the station’s construction schedule.
El Dabaa will be Egypt's first nuclear power plant. Its general designer and construction contractor is Rosatom. The project includes four 1200 MW power units with VVER-1200 reactors. Completion of the entire project is planned for 2028–2029, Interfax wrote.
